Cafe and bar counter

The challenge

What the client needed.

A new cafe needed ordering, printing and reporting installed as part of the fit-out. The owner wanted the technology to be part of the counter design from the start, not added afterwards with trailing cables and a terminal perched on the worktop.

The cafe was also going to be run day to day by staff rather than the owner, so daily sales had to be recorded reliably and reported without relying on a handwritten cash-up at the end of each shift.

What we did

We coordinated with the joiner and electrician during the fit-out to agree the position of the terminal, printer and card device within the bar counter and to ensure power and network points were installed behind it. The hardware was then fitted flush to the counter with cables hidden inside.

The menu and pricing were configured in the system with categories for drinks, food and retail items, and staff accounts were set up with shift reporting. The team was trained before opening on taking orders, processing card and cash payments and closing a shift.

The outcome

Service was ready for opening with daily sales reporting from the first shift. Staff take orders and payments at the counter and the owner sees what was sold, by whom and when, without being present.

Because the equipment was designed into the counter, the working area is clear and easy to keep clean. Shift reports replaced the handwritten cash-up and gave the owner a consistent record from the first day of trading.
